Building a life from scratch, I remembered a powerful lesson.
As I got off the plane and saw my wife, I stepped forward into a new life. Leaving behind security and stability for an unknown future filled with potential, we embarked on a new adventure together.
When I first came to the U.S., it was while conducting research for my PhD. I did not intend to immigrate at all, I had built a life for myself in South Africa with the promise of future employment upon finishing my degree. It was not until visiting with family that we were convinced of all the possibilities this country promised. We made a huge decision to uproot our lives and start fresh. My wife, Zemenay, stayed behind in the U.S. with her mother since she was already several months pregnant at the time. Meanwhile, I went back to South Africa to finish my PhD. After I was done, I arrived back here just in time for the birth of our first-born daughter.
It was an exciting time for us, and a lot happened in short order. However, once we were all here, it was time to get to work and start building our life anew. I had left behind a professorship in South Africa to move here where there was no job waiting for me and no certainty that I would find one.
Having the courage to start from scratch and go down so that I can rise even higher is something that I have always excelled at. I grew up in rural Ethiopia with my eight brothers and sisters. Our home had no electricity or running water and once we walked the several miles back after our lessons each day, we went to work on the farm. I tended the cattle; everyone had their own job to do, and we would all finish around eight or nine in the evening to wake up early the next morning and start it all over again.
Fortunately, my parents always valued education and instilled the importance of it in me and my siblings. Many of us went to college and the biggest gift they ever gave me was the belief that I could do everything. We worked hard each day and I saw the strength in my family and my community. I would not trade my childhood for the world because it gave me the character, integrity, and morals that make me the man I am today.
I was never worried about succeeding in a life built from scratch because I had done it so many times before. So, I started small with odd jobs before becoming a professor and then REALTOR®.
I have learned throughout the years that managing your energy is just as important as managing your time. In fact, I have seen firsthand that having a positive approach can spell the difference between success and failure. I have found that through positivity, hard work, and honesty nothing in this life is truly impossible.
I have been a licensed REALTOR® since 2015. Whenever I am not working, I enjoy reading, swimming, and spending time with my family. My favorite part of being a REALTOR® is contributing to the lives of others to help them find happiness and becoming a part of their stories in the process.
Whether you are buying or selling a home, you want the results that will work best for you. I am not a transactional agent; I get to know my clients because we are building a relationship as we work together to reach your goals. With my background in business and finance, I know how to go beyond finding the perfect property to making the best financial decision to benefit your family in the years to come. I speak Amharic and English so you can choose whichever you are most comfortable with. I will be there to guide and educate you every step of the way. Once the transaction is over, I will still be here because by then we are family and I want to help you reach all your dreams as your lifelong REALTOR®.
Sincerely,
